Have you ever noticed that when you do a thing naturally, that 9 out of 10 times whatever that thing is turns out to be is a good thing? Why do I start off babbling the way that I am?

I watched a video this morning that my husband showed me and it was about a woman who is now 70 years old and she looks no older than 50.

I bring this up because I spent the weekend with a group of friends and colleagues, and we were 5 women working to bring this new project into being. Two of them were young (mid 30's) and the rest of us were mature (nuff said).

In watching the video this morning, it took me back to what one of the women had done for herself naturally, and that was to lose wait.

The woman on the video this morning talked about when she turned 50 and that she wanted to remain youthful and didn't want to get sick. She had a history in her family of high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease and she just refused to go down that path.

So her choice was to become a vegan, which is no meat or dairy. She took it to the point of learning how to make her own condiments. She created her own cookbook and cable TV show.

Her name is Annette Larkins and she's in Miami, FL. I found it to be very inspirational just as I did when my husband was introduced to the video of Ernestine Sheppard.

At the time, Ernestine was 73 and had taken up bodybuilding in her late 50s. It's a turning point and you get sick and tired of being sick and tired.

So Ernestine changed her approach to life by dealing with nutrition and becoming a bodybuilder.

Annette changed her life in her 40's by changing her eating habits and the food she takes in. She has her own garden, indoor and outdoors, collects rainwater, and it was extremely inspirational.

Taking a positive approach gives you healthier skin

One of the things you find when you take the approach of eating healthy and working out is that your beautiful black skin, hair, movement in terms of flexibility all benefit from the positive changes that you take.

In particular, your skin begins to look as though you're reverting back to childhood. It becomes so soft and smooth until you look in the mirror and it's amazing that itís you.

With the women that I was away with this weekend, one of those women within the past year was weighing 282 lbs wearing a size 20 dress and now sheís down to a size 8-10.

She'd been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and she said she refused to be a person immobile and not independent. She said they told her she would never walk again without a walker and her attitude remained positive.

She walks without a walker and is still able to drive herself to and from wherever she wants to go. She doesn't run like she used to but she still makes sure to get a workout in with calisthenics everyday. She took a natural approach because she couldn't afford other methods like Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem.

With her, it was making the decision that she was going to do it and mean it.

She doesn't have all of this fat skin sagging from the weight loss because of her workout regimen. She cut out sugar, soda, white rice, flour and other starches and went completely into vegetables, fruits and nuts.

It's important to make a conscious decision of what you're going to do. Eating healthy is a conscious decision because there's so much around you until if you don't make a concerted effort with your nutrition and exercise, you will be tilting the scale toward the garbage in a heart beat.
