FAQ's on How To Care for Black Skin and Make It Beautiful

When caring for the skin you're in, as an African American or person of color, you've got some components that other people may not experience. One of them is Melanin!

Any time there's melanin, there exist the presence of color. As such there are myths about black skin that could get you in trouble.

Some of those myths:
  • Black don't crack
  • I don't need a sunscreen
  • Moisturizers are a waste of time
  • I don't age fast because I've got melanin.

Myths bring about questions, so I've compiled a list of frequently asked questions and provided answers here for you.

FAQ's For Beautiful Black Skin

Q. - How often should I cleanse my face?

A. - A good black skin care regimen would have you cleansing your face twice a day. As a matter of fact you would cleanse, tone and moisturize on a daily basis.

Q. - What type of product should I use on my face?

A. - A non- soap, non-detergent based product is good for your skin. I suggest cream based cleansers. Even with oily skin you can use cream based cleansers.

Cream based cleansers don't strip the acid mantel of your skin. A good green tea cream based cleanser will work wonders for your skin.

Q. - How much product should I use on my face?

A. - Depending on the size of your face, an amount the size of a nickel to a quarter is a good amount to start with. You can always add more.

Q. - Do I need a toner or an astringent?

A. - This will depend on your skin type. Typically toners are used on normal, combination and mature skin. Toners bring your pH levels back into balance.

Astringents are typically used on oily and acne skin types. Astringents pull excessive oil from your skin.

Q. - Do I need a Masque?

A. - A good facial masque is extremely important to the caring of your skin. Facial masque can help remove excess oil and impurities from your skin, as well as hydrate your skin.

Q. - How often should I use a masque and how long should it stay on my face?

A. - For Oily Skin - A basic skin care regimen would have you use a masque once a week.

For Normal, Combination, dry and Mature skin a hydrating masque will work wonders for your skin.

Q. - Do I need to exfoliate?

A. - Absolutely yes! When you exfoliate your skin, you are removing layers of dead skin cells. Dead skin cells will have your skin looking dull, ashy and gray.

But when you exfoliate, you will see the luster and glow of beautiful black skin that-s been hidden.

Q. - Does the food I eat play a role in the condition of my skin?

A. - You bet it does! Nutrition can often play a more important role than a skin care product.

Why? Because great skin is part genetic and part nutrition. For the nutrition part, whatever you eat feeds your cells, organs, blood stream, bones ... you name and the food you've eaten is nourishing you and your body parts.

The product line becomes the component that assists in exterior maintenance for your skin.

Q. - Do I need a moisturizer?

A. - Most skin types need a moisturizer, even if it's oily skin. I keep hearing Black Don't Crack. I won't if you keep it properly moisturized.

A good moisturizer will penetrate your skin and moisturize it down to the inner skin layer preventing cracked, dry and scaly skin.

Q. - Is a product line necessary for beautiful black skin?

A. - A product line that is formulated for black skin in particular, is necessary for the maintenance of beautiful black skin.
