Are Facials The Secret To Flawless Black Skin?

The new buzzwords in the world of skin care are spa facials and medical facials. Just when you thought you had it down to a science here we come with more terminology.

What's the difference? Before I answer that question, let's take a look at the main benefits of a facial.

A facial in general:
  • Helps in maintaining proper hydration levels in your skin
  • Helps in decongesting clogged pores and prevents dead skin cell buildup
  • Increases circulation
  • Keeps your skin pliable and
  • Brightens your skin.
Did you know that certain masks are also considered an exfoliation process? Did you know that exfoliation is part of the skin lightening/brightening process?

Spa Facials are what are considered to be your relaxing and pampering facials. Although this could be argued by some skin care therapist but in general this is true.

Skin care therapist in a spa environment can handle acne, psoriasis and other challenges as well.

You'll find steam machines used to "open up" your pores and soften the oil that has hardened within them.

The steam softens your skin and prepares it for extractions but there are some skin types that are even to sensitive for extractions. If this process is not done correctly extreme redness and even burns can occur on your skin.

Within the spa environment, you can also experience aromatherapy and/or a hand and foot massage, also known as reflexology.

Medical Facials are not considered luxurious or pampering. They are more like hard-core workouts for your skin. They give extra attention to serious skin problems and focus on deep exfoliation.

Medical facials are considered more clinical in its approach to skin care and the ingredients and modalities used are different from spa facials.

In medical facials you’ll find stronger concentrations and prescription strength ingredients like retinoids and hydroquinone. You’ll also find light and laser treatments, more aggressive peels and Microdermabrasion.

Your beautiful black skin doesn't always like retinoids, hydroquinone, lasers peels and Microdermabrasion.

Steam isn't always used in medical spas. Some skin therapist like using alpha-hydroxy acids to prepare your skin for extractions instead of steam

In the medical spa arena, facials are done under the supervision of a plastic surgeon or dermatologist.

Remember ...

Facials help instill a sense of relaxation but they are also essential to maintaining healthy skin with regular exfoliation.

When your skin is regularly and properly exfoliated, normal cell rate is ensued and this gives you softer skin and a more even skin tone.

We've got new additions to our store for you. Essential oils have been known to help calm and soothe skin and scalp irritations. Although you'll find a sample kit on the hair category page, you can use them for any of your skin and hair care needs.

The hair care sample kit has been given an upgrade. We've increased the size of the container on the shampoo and conditioners and added a hair butter sample to the mix.

Although there's beauty in your blackness, your skin is sensitive and needs protection from the sun just like everyone else.
