Happy New Year To You and Your Beautiful Black Skin!

Happy New Year To You and Your Beautiful Black Skin!

Were Off and Running!

Yes it's a new year and potentially a new you. What are your plans? Since weve all had a wonderful season of sampling new foods and feasting on familiar ones, this is typically the time of year when we decide to get serious about our body and skin.

Ok that said, what cha gonna do? Let's start with a small goal! Say loose 10 pounds by March? See, no pressure!

Not only will you lose 10 pounds but how about toning it up and in the process setting a goal for a full body skin care regimen for your beautiful black skin.

After all, what's a new year without setting goals?

What's Your New Years Resolution!

If weight loss, exercise and skin care are involved, then so is nutrition. Every successful weight loss program begins with a nutritional program. Every successful skin care regimen begins with a nutritional program.

While cleansing, toning and moisturizing are my mantra for your external care, its the same for internal care.

Wanna loose weight and have great looking skin? The answer lies in what you eat and drink as well as what you apply to your skin topically!

Nutrition and Black Skin

You've been told that fried, stewed and bar-b-qued food is not good for your health or your skin, neither is processed sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

Speaking of high fructose corn syrup, did you know that high fructose corn syrup is 55% fructose and 45% glucose? Plain English, it's sweeter than regular table sugar.

The harmful effects of sugar have to do with the way your body metabolizes the fructose portion of the sugar. The sugar generated in your body from starchy foods is metabolized differently and have a different effect in your body than regular sugar.

Fructose is metabolized by your liver where as glucose from sugar and starches are metabolized in your cells.

Does it matter? Yes it does. Consuming cane sugar or high fructose corn syrups cause your liver to work very hard to process the fructose.

Whew !!! That being said, why not stay on the side of good foods and learn what they can do for your body and skin.

Some of the foods that are good for your health and skin are foods like:
  • Kale, collard greens, broccoli and spinach
  • Red, yellow and green peppers
  • Berries, cherries and plums
  • Black and red grapes (with seeds)
  • Water, water, water (hopefully spring or filtered)
Many herbs and spices have been found to be as powerful as some medications in lowering and stabilizing your blood sugar. (Always check with your physician before adding spices and herbs to your nutrition plan)

While this touches the surface of your health and skin care needs, it gives you food for thought, so to speak, and can give you information upon which to grow into a healthy and beautiful being.

Make it fit into your goals for the new year and the new you!

What's your greatest skin care challenge?

As women and a growing number of men of color, what's your greatest skin care challenge? Whether it's dark spots, uneven skin tone, dark circles, puffiness under your eyes or hair that won't grow, you'll find a product that can possibly become the solution to your challenge.

Moisturizers and ingredients that hydrate your skin will always be your best friend, for your face, body and hair. So look for products with nourishing and nurturing ingredients. Shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter and jojoba oils are a few of the ingredients to keep on your list.

We've got new additions to our store for you. Essential oils have been known to help calm and soothe skin and scalp irritations. Although you'll find a sample kit on the hair category page, you can use them for any of your skin and hair care needs.

The hair care sample kit has been given an upgrade. We've increased the size of the container on the shampoo and conditioners and added a hair butter sample to the mix.

Although there's beauty in your blackness, your skin is sensitive and needs protection from the sun just like everyone else. So if you know you're challenged by sunburn, add a few drops of Lavender essential oil to Jojoba and Grapeseed Oil and create a nice body oil for yourself. It will bring comfort and beauty back to your skin.

We're listening to you and your suggestions, so keep an eye on the category pages and your emails for updates.
