How to Care for Natural Black Hair-Learning the Basics

Your hair is like a collection of extremely fine and delicate fibers and it should be properly taken care of with the same gentleness that you'd use to take care of your precious china. If you know how to care for natural black hair, you will be able to achieve a better looking and a more healthy head of hair.

Handling the Frizz in Natural Black Hair

You can section it, tie it on your back or wrap, your natural black hair that is, with a scarf before you go to sleep at night. This will reduce the risks of frizzy tangles that are very difficult to comb out when you wake up in the morning. This practice will also decrease the risk of hair breakage that will further damage your hair.

Alternatively, you can also use a hair cap or a pillow with a satin or silk case to prevent split ends, that you would otherwise have when you rub your hair against a rougher surface like cotton for example. Moisture from your hair is also better preserved with this practice thus making your hair beautifully moisturized the next morning.

If your hair tends to go dry when you wash it don't shampoo it more than once a week or every ten days. Make sure that you apply a conditioner after shampooing in order to moisturize your hair shaft. Use a wide tooth comb when you apply the conditioner so that you can safely remove the tangles.

Give your hair a hot oil treatment once a month and regular massaging on the scalp to stimulate natural hair production. If you happen to sweat a lot, you'll definitely need to shampoo and condition your hair at least once a week. This will keep the salt from building up on your scalp. Learning how to care for natural black hair is usually a process that requires common sense.

Limit Heat To Your Natural Black Hair

Avoid using flat irons and other heating equipment because they are usually very damaging to your hair. Alcohol-based products are a big no-no because it tends to dry out your scalp and this removes the moisture and natural oils from your hair. Remember, moisture and natural oil is your hairís best friend.

This is why you should not use flat irons and blow dryers, they will definitely dry your scalp and hair out. Worst, you could even get flaky skin on your scalp because of this dryness. It is a good idea to sprinkle water on your hair to promote moisture.

Relaxing your hair until it is too straight is also not recommended especially if you're considering using a perms on your hair. This is a chemical heat process that will damage your hair.

Nutrition and Your Natural Black Hair

Donít forget a nutritious diet because vitamins and protein are essential when you are trying to grow your hair beautiful and strong. Nutritional supplements are good but they are usually not enough to promote proper hair growth.

Vegetables, especially green vegetables and fruits are a great way to begin your nutritional journey to a healthy head of natural black hair.
