Hyperpigmentation, Why is My Complexion No Longer Beautiful

Hyperpigmentation. Whatís the big deal? To someone who is challenged with uneven skin tones, dark patches and dark spots, itís a really big deal.

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of your skin. It occurs when your skin produces more melanin. Melanin is what gives your skin its color. More melanin production can be caused by popping pimples, using the wrong skin care products or exfoliating your skin too hard.

Too much sun can cause more melanin production. When youíre in the sun, it can burn your skin. Yes, you have a natural SPF of 15, yet the sun can cause untold damage when you take in too much of it. Especially at the height of the day.

Treatments for Hyper-pigmented Dark Skin Complexions.

The most popular, yet most controversial treatment for hyperpigmentation is hydroquinone. It is known to cause damage to your internal organs especially your liver.

Itís banned in most developing countries, although the U. S. still provides it at 2% levels over the counter and 4% levels with prescriptions. Itís the misuse of hydroquinone that has caused such a stir.

It has become the go-to product for bleaching your skin, especially in the Carribean and African countries. In the process, your health suffers. Itís a hefty price to pay just because youíve been convinced that the lighter your skin the better you are.

Wait Ö thereís more

There are more natural ingredients used for evening out your skin tone. Bilberry extract, arbitun, licorice, lactic acid, sugar maple and sugar cane extracts are just a few of the natural ingredients that can help with evening out your skin tone.

These natural ingredients can be formulated into serums that will help with the process without damaging your skin. Itís extremely important for you to have a skin care regimen in place for the daily care of your skin.

Cleanse, tone, moisturize. As for a weekly add-on to enhance your regimen, serums exfoliation and masque will help nourish and nurture your skin and keep it healthy.

Melanin, Your Protector and Nourisher

As stated earlier, Melanin is what gives your skin its color. In order for your complexion to remain clear and radiant, youíll have to feed it the right foods, internally and externally.

I wonít go into the chemical components of melanin production, as this is not a science class. However, the food you eat plays an important role in everything as it applies to the health of your skin as well as your body.

Herbs stimulate the movement of melanin in your system. Therefore, gingko, or gotu kola, damiana, eyebright, echinacea and chamomile are good herbs to have on hand.

Fresh fruits and vegetables - especially green foods - will supply you with the proper nutrients you need to nourish your melanin.

Finally Ö

When it comes to hyperpigmentation, a wholistic approach to caring for your skin is crucial. Youíll want to incorporate a whole body system of self care to maintain beautiful skin.

Try not to scratch or over manipulate. And by all means, donít pop pimples and donít use tweezers trying to pull hairs from your chin. Youíre doing untold damage thatís creating a problem for you down the line.

Thatís it for this week. As always Ö
