The Right Skin Care Regimen for Women of Color with Oily Skin

While natural oils may protect the skin from signs of aging, excessive secretion of oil might be the cause of embarrassment, thanks to clogged pores. Have you ever wondered what causes oily skin in African Americans? If you are an African American woman with oily skin, rest assured we have the perfect beauty regimen for you to follow.

Here’s how it goes:

Start your day by using a good quality cleanse to rid your skin of excess oils. Do not use soap as it may dry out your skin, eventually causing it to produce even more oil. Cleanse your skin again before going to bed.

Using the right toner helps restore balance to the pH level of your skin. Avoid toners that contain too much alcohol as it will strip away natural oils from your skin. Place a few drops of toner on a clean cotton pad and gently wipe it on the affected areas of your skin. Some toners contain harsh ingredients, hence inspect the ingredients printed on the label or consider asking your dermatologist to recommend you a toner according to your skin type.

Opt for an oil free moisturizer for your oily skin. While it may seem counterproductive, a good moisturizer will hydrate the inner layers of your skin, causing it to appear supple and smooth on the outside. Always use a light moisturizer to keep it healthy and hydrated.

What's the secret to black skin care, oily, dry, normal or combination skin? A good black skin care regimen. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing are important in the care of your skin, especially for oily skin. It's a good idea to make sure you have one and follow it.

Blotting Paper

Apart from moisturizing, cleansing and toning, sometimes your African American skin can use some extra help and some of you have told me you like blotting paper. You can consider using blotting paper to soak up excess oils from your skin. Gently dab blotting paper on your skin after your cleansing regimen. Do not rub the paper over various areas of your skin, just blot. Simply hold the blotting paper on your skin for 15 to 20 seconds. We’re talking paper on your face here and it can spread dirt and bacteria, resulting in acne breakouts.

Clay Masks

Clay masks are known to curb excess production of oil, making it the perfect solution for women who suffer from oily skin. Additionally, clay masks soak up dirt which may have accumulated on your skin throughout the day and clean your pores as well. This results in an envious glowing complexion that will transform your oily skin, making it smooth and tight.

However, with excessive use, clay masks can dry out your skin hence use them with caution, ideally only once a week. Follow the above mentioned beauty regime for beautiful black skin.

That's it for this week! As always ...
